Pregnancy Expectations vs Reality: Why “Feel Better” Is the Real Goal

More About Us

My team of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists and I are here to give you the answers and support you need to feel completely nourished throughout your pregnancy.

Have you ever felt like pregnancy was supposed to look a certain way, and yours just… doesn’t? The glowing skin, the cute bump, the dreamy nursery. It all looks so effortless from the outside. But for a lot of women, the real experience is nausea, exhaustion, midnight Google spirals, and plans that go sideways.

In this first episode, I’m explaining why this podcast is called Feel Better, not Feel Good. Because if the bar is “feel good” and you don’t feel good, now you feel like you’re failing at that too. The real goal is to feel better. Better in your choices, better in how you show up, and more at peace with how your journey actually unfolds. If you’ve been carrying guilt, anxiety, or the weight of unmet expectations, this one’s for you.

I named this podcast on purpose.

Not Feel Good. Feel Better.

And I want to take a minute to tell you why, because it sets the tone for everything we’re going to talk about here.

The Highlight Reel Version of Pregnancy

Scroll through social media on any given day and pregnancy looks like a dream. Glowing skin, perfectly styled bump photos, pastel nurseries with matching shelves. And I’m not knocking any of that. If that’s your experience, that’s wonderful.

But that version of pregnancy leaves out a lot.

It leaves out the weeks of nausea where nothing sounds good. The exhaustion that hits so hard you can barely function at work. The anxiety that creeps in at 2 a.m. when you’re reading conflicting information about what you should and shouldn’t eat. The diagnosis you didn’t see coming. The birth plan that went completely sideways. The postpartum experience that looks nothing like what you imagined.

That stuff is real. And it’s incredibly common.

When Pregnancy Expectations Meet Reality

Here’s where the disconnect gets tricky. When you’ve been told, directly or indirectly, that pregnancy is supposed to be this beautiful, magical experience, and yours doesn’t feel that way, you don’t just feel uncomfortable. You feel like you’re doing something wrong.

That gap between pregnancy expectations and reality creates guilt. It creates anxiety. It creates this quiet sense that you should be handling things better, enjoying it more, showing up differently.

And that pressure isn’t helpful. It doesn’t motivate anyone to eat better, move more, or take care of themselves. It just adds one more thing to feel bad about.

Why “Feel Good” Is the Wrong Goal

This is exactly why I didn’t name this podcast Feel Good Pregnancy & Postpartum.

Because “feel good” is a destination. And when you can’t get there, when you’re nauseous or overwhelmed or scared or just plain tired, “feel good” becomes another standard you’re not meeting.

I don’t want to be another voice telling you how you’re supposed to feel.

What “Feel Better” Actually Means

“Feel better” is different. It’s not a destination. It’s a direction.

It means better than you feel right now. Better in your choices. Better in how you show up for yourself. Better in how you nourish your body and your baby.

Sometimes “better” looks like thriving. Having great energy, loving how you feel, enjoying the whole process.

And sometimes “better” looks like finally understanding what to eat when nothing sounds good. Having a plan when your glucose test comes back high. Knowing what to do when postpartum doesn’t go the way you expected.

Both versions count.

Ready for support that meets you where you are? Let’s work together.

Life Happens, and That’s Allowed

One of the things I’ll say over and over on this podcast is that life happens. Dynamics change. Work evolves. Pregnancies take turns nobody planned for. Postpartum hits differently than anyone imagined.

And all of that is allowed.

The goal was never to have a picture-perfect experience. It’s how you navigate from where you are, right now, to a place where you feel more grounded, more confident, and more at peace with how your pregnancy and postpartum journey is unfolding.

That’s the work. And it doesn’t require perfection. It requires tools, support, and a little bit of grace.

Navigating Guilt, Anxiety, and the Unexpected

If guilt has been creeping in, I want you to know: that’s not a signal that you’re failing. It’s usually a signal that you care deeply and you’re carrying the weight of a lot of expectations, your own and everyone else’s.

This podcast is here to help you work through that. The guilt. The anxious feelings. The stuff that catches you off guard because nobody warned you about it.

I want you to walk away from every single episode with something you can actually use. Not more pressure. Not more stress. Something practical and grounding that helps you feel a little more steady.

What You Can Expect from This Podcast

Every episode is built around that same idea: feel better. We’ll talk about first trimester nutrition, managing nausea, navigating gestational diabetes, eating well when you’re exhausted, rebuilding in postpartum, and so much more.

You’ll hear from me and from my team of prenatal and postpartum dietitians, each with their own specialty and perspective. Everything is rooted in real clinical experience and delivered the way I’d talk to a friend.

No fear-based messaging. No unrealistic standards. Just clear, practical support for wherever you are in this journey.

Final Thoughts

The goal is to feel better. And hopefully, to thrive.

But also to stay grounded in reality and navigate everything that comes with growing, birthing, and feeding a human being. That’s what this podcast is for. And I’m really glad you’re here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does pregnancy feel so different from what I expected?

Because the version of pregnancy we see most often is filtered. Glowing skin, styled nurseries, cute bump photos. The reality for many women includes nausea, exhaustion, unexpected diagnoses, and plans that change. That gap between expectation and experience can feel isolating, but it’s incredibly common.

Is it normal to feel guilty during pregnancy?

Yes, and it comes up more than most people talk about. Guilt about what you’re eating, how you’re feeling, whether you’re doing enough. Those feelings don’t mean you’re failing. They usually mean you care deeply and could use some support navigating the pressure.

How can I feel better during a difficult pregnancy?

Start with the idea that “better” doesn’t mean perfect. It means better than right now. That might look like understanding what to eat when nothing sounds appealing, working with a prenatal dietitian, or just giving yourself permission to take things one day at a time.
